I've been a little bit tardy with posting this week but it's not because I've been neglecting my blog. On the contrary, my blog is always with me: it's because TT and I are trying to lose weight. You can imagine, with a blog devoted to cooking, this has been a bit difficult for me to assimilate.
But on we go: the books arrived from Amazon a few days ago. I'm the kind of person who always needs to read first. One is The Dukan Diet and the other is The Dukan Diet Recipe Book. I've been trying to read through them to at least get the gist of the diet. It's been difficult as this week I've been extremely busy but this morning, I deliberately put aside time just to get a grip on the recipe book.
And now I get it! Well, more or less. It is extremely clever and, I think, eminently doable. Don't forget, Dukan is Dr Pierre Dukan, French to his fingertips and with supremely manageable meals described in his book. Everything depends firstly on being prepared and having the necessary ingredients to hand, which in turn implies that you have read through his book, have chosen a recipe and are psyched up for it. It's all about adding flavour with lemons, spices and other tasty ingredients. These are ordinary everyday items, calorie-less but definitely adding in the taste department.
I really like his attitude and so far, I like his recipes. Added to that, I have the living example of two friends here in Istanbul who have carried his diet through and look positively skinny! Motivation is key!
OK so here is the recipe for Chicken with Lemons:

1/2 tsp finely chopped ginger
500g/1lb 2oz chicken breast, cut into medium-sized cubes IN TURKEY THE BUTCHER WILL DO THIS FOR YOU

salt and freshly ground black pepper
- In a non-stick pan (oiled and wiped with kitchen paper), brown the onion, garlic and ginger for 3-4 minutes over a medium heat. Add the chicken and sauté the pieces over a high heat for 2 minutes, stirring all the time with a spatula.

Does this supper look diet? It smelt most inviting and looked pretty good.
Of course a pilaf of rice or bulgur would have complemented it beautifully but as a diet dinner, we didn't feel deprived! What do you think?
